Founded in 1968

In 1966 Stewart bought his first Section A pony, an F.S.1 mare called Norwood Bilberry (Revel Torchlight / Norwood Snowberry), from Miss Marguerite de Beaumont at Shalbourne Stud.

Two years later, the first foal had to be registered and the Sarum prefix was registered and the stud formed. Sarum is the old Roman name for Salisbury, where Stewart was born.

In 1974 Stewart and Anne married and the stud expanded

We purchased Bengad Dogwood from David and Lorna Reynolds of the Springbourne Stud and today Springbourne influences our breeding with the two stud stallions Blanche Gwillym and Springbourne Envoy.

The introduction of the two daughters of Cledwyn Lili Wen Fach, has been very successful and the results in the show ring speak for themselves. The Penual Mark influence has been outstanding for us.

The final part of the jigsaw was the introduction of Flydon Henri ap Pip and Flydon Caradog, which brought in Clan Pip and Coed Coch lines.

In our eyes Caradog was without doubt one of the best sire available in the country and his influence cannot be understated.

To summarise, our Section A ponies are a mixture of Bengad, Cledwyn, Flydon and Springbourne bloodlines.

The Section C ponies started because of Anne's interest in riding and in 1986 we purchased Kingdown Hannah as a yearling, from our friends Jim and Wendy Richards of the Kingdown Stud.

Hannah was shown successfully in hand and under saddle, before being used as a broodmare. Being by Menai Fury and of pony type, we tried to continue in this vein by using stallions such as Ashgrove Crackerjack, Manmoel Mostyn (by Synod William) and latterly Nebo Bouncer.
