Sarum Queen of Hearts
Our yearling filly Queenie had three outings. Her first was the South Western Association of WPCS Show. I had sciatica and could barely walk properly let alone run, so a friend of ours, Jackie Wilson, stepped into the breach and did an excellent job of showing her and won the class. Considering neither runner nor pony had ever met before, I think this was quite an achievement. Jackie kindly showed the filly at Devon County Show, where she was third in her class beaten by two colts and two weeks later at her last show Queenie, again shown by Jackie, was first at Royal Cornwall.
Sarum Roseanna
Roseanna our three year old filly, shown by Adam Fletcher, started her season in style with a win and then the Championship at the West and Wales Elite Show.
On Friday 20th.May she was 3rd. at Devon County and was the top filly and in July at the Severn Valley Show, she was again third.
However on Saturday 23rd. July at Cwm Blaenau Gwent Show Roseanna got back into winning mode, coming first in her class and being Section A Youngstock Champion and Reserve Supreme Youngstock Champion.
Springbourne Envoy
Envoy, shown by Adam Fletcher, has had a good show season although he has missed out on the red rosette on all but one occasion. His results are as follows:
2nd. at Devon County Show
1st. and Reserve Champion at West and Wales Elite Show
2nd. at Cothibridge Show
3rd. at Severn Valley Show
2nd. at Derbyshire Show
2nd. and Reserve Champion at Midland Counties Show
7th. Royal Welsh
Two Sarum ponies are doing well under saddle for their respective owners.
Sarum Rembrandt was sold at the end of his very successful show season last year and is now owned by Julie and Sarah Joyner. He qualified for the Picton Novice finals at his first attempt, produced and ridden by Heidi Bennett of the Popsters stud and I think he will go on to be a very successful ridden stallion and later stud stallion for the Joyner sisters.
Sarum Japhet has also qualified for the Picton Novice finals. He is owned by Tony and Nicki McGuire and ridden by Anna Richards. Anna broke Japhet in at the end of last year and has been in the rosettes with him from his very first show but unfortunately she will not be able to ride in the finals. Last week on returning from a show, Anna undid the horse ramp which then collapsed onto her, crushing her. She received serious injuries, including fractures to her head and pelvis. We are told that she is slowly improving and we wish her all the very best and a speedy and complete recovery.
The Royal Welsh Show
The Royal Welsh is obviously a special show to any Welsh breeder and we all want to do well when showing there. We have had some good results in the past but never a win so this year was very special and a dream come true for us, when not only did Sarum Rippling Rose win her two year old filly class but Sarum Camelia, owned by Jane Goodhead, also won the three year old filly class and was Section A Reserve Youngstock Champion.
Ripple had never been shown before but we knew she was a good moving filly and not timid so we just hoped the atmosphere would make her excited and not scared. Luckily for us she gave a good show, although by the Championship, the excitement had taken its toll and she was beginning to tire. Our congratulations must go to Adam and Karen for producing and showing her so well.
Congratulations also to Jane who produced Camelia so beautifully.
Another Sarum pony was also in the ribbons at the Royal Welsh, although it was his handler that won them. Sarum Whirlwind's owner, Christopher Stansfield won the Junior Handler class and the Reserve Overall Handler. This is just one of the many wins Christopher has had with Whirlwind (Whizzy) in Young Handler and gelding classes. Congratulations to them both!
As I mentioned above Sarum Camelia is now owned by Jane Goodhead. Jane bought her at the Fayre Oaks last year and has been showing her very successfully ever since. We wish her continued success in the future.
After her successes in the show ring in 2010 Sarum Rose Petal was sold to Ceri Fell of the Brynseion stud. We hope she continues to be successful for Ceri and produces some lovely foals for her.
Sarum Phoenix went to join Sarum Japhet at Tony and Nicki McGuire's. Tony has shown him successfully and I think he will do even better when he is a three year old, although he has a hard act to follow in Japhet!
